They don’t sell EPT for cats and dogs, so you’ll need to visit your vet if you suspect your pet’s expecting. A veterinarian will be able to detect fetal heartbeats in dogs around the 25th day after breeding, and about 2 weeks after conception in cats.
Book an appointment if you notice any of these signs:
Dog Pregnancy Symptoms

- Reduced activity may indicate exhaustion from hormone level changes.
- Swollen nipples are a good indicator your dog’s preparing for milk production.
- Increased appetite occurs about 3–4 weeks into the pregnancy.
- Weight gain occurs about a month into the pregnancy.
Cat Pregnancy Symptoms
- Heat cycles stop (although this doesn’t always happen).
- Nipples will be pinker and more prominent three weeks in.
- Reduced activity could indicate your cat’s reaction to progesterone, the pregnancy hormone.
- Sleeping in dark, warm places may signify she is nesting.
- Abnormally affectionate behavior marks feline preparation for mommyhood.
Your pet should give birth within 61–69 days—so start preparing for the pitter-patter of little paws!
