As a pet owner, we are responsible for everything in our pet’s life: their food, their environment, their healthcare. They can’t know any better, so it’s up to us to know for them.

The dangers cocoa presents:

  1. The theobromine in cocoa can speed up a dog’s heart rate, leading to irregularities.
  2. Cocoa is a strong diuretic.
  3. Vomiting is common, to dispel the body of the toxin.
  4. The most dangerous forms: cocoa powder and cooking chocolate.

When you get a dog, research the kinds of foods that are OK for him. What may seem harmless to us — chocolate, mushrooms, grapes — could mean health complications for our four-legged best friend, something we would never dream of doing. It’s definitely up to us!
